The old guitarist, 1903 by Pablo Picasso worked with loneliness and sorrowful themes. He used dark backgrounds with hazy color. The hazy color on the top of the old man’s head gives the expression of the full moon in the cold night. The glow of the moon becomes closer to the window and illuminates the room. Moreover, there is nobody around and his look is lonely expression and poor. The torn clothes on his thin body and the emaciated face describe him as a sorrowful man. The fact that he holds his guitar, means that he always loves his guitar and never leaves his guitar until the rest of his life.
The painter emphasizes the picture at ear, eyes and turn down his head. He draws the ear with thick line and closes his eyes that is mean he is blind and plays the guitar and follows his heart and listen to the melody of the sound. In addition, dark expression of this picture emphasizes night; therefore, the guitarist never knows which condition he plays the guitar. He does not know noon or night. The body explains the poor condition, he does not care about his health and he prefers to play his guitar all day long.
